WiBA is delighted to welcome you to our annual Women of Distinction Lunch with guest speaker, Christina Blacklaws at the Lost and Found Bar, Birmingham. Every year we celebrate the achievements of women of distinction who have reached the top of their career and hear their personal reflections of their journey to career success to inspire us, whatever stage of our working life.
Christina's distinguished career started as a solicitor, qualifying in 1991. Christina established her own law practice, Blacklaws Davis LLP as one of the first 'virtual' law firms – long before the pandemic made hybrid and working from home the norm! Christina continued as an entrepreneur, setting up the first Alternative Business Structure in the UK with the Co-Operative Group. She then went on to become one of the first COOs and Director of Innovation at a large law firm. Christina now has her own consultancy business, providing strategic advice focused on transformational change, the power of technology and the opportunities and benefits or true inclusion and diversity. She also chairs two important UK government bodies in the law and technology space and sitting on the QC Selection Panel, makes recommendations to the Queen for this honour.
Christina served as an office holder and, ultimately, President of the Law Society of England and Wales. During her tenure, Christina spearheaded a global programme to research and campaign to promote women in leadership in law. This culminated in a Women in Law Pledge which is supported by the UK government.
Christina will share her journey, her motivation and the lessons she has learned throughout her illustrious career, providing insights and inspiration. She will also take us through some of the research, and what works to increase women in leadership. Finally, she’ll discuss the impact of technology on women and, hopefully, inspire us all to become activists! Although Christina's journey has been primarily based in the legal sector, her lessons are applicable for all careers and walks of life.
Our lunch will be in the Secret Room of The Lost and Found, Birmngham. The two course menu includes vegetarian options and a drink on arrival including non-alcoholic options. We will also have an exclusive bar for additional drinks to be purchased should you wish.
